What You Think, You Become

2018

NOAH is my small, personal brand which features a collection of twisted, abstract facial expressions. I conceptualize my experience with anxiety, stress, confusion, encouragement and social activism using faces and colors. Ever since I was young, I always portrayed my emotions in colors. There are endless combinations of hues, which is indicative of the endless nature of emotions and anxiety that I endure. I also purposefully accentuated and centered my drawings around the concept of Asian eyes. The elongated angles and unique perspectives honor the beauty of Asian culture and directly address my internal emotions about racism.

Commissioned by my city, I was honored to paint a series of utility boxes in my “NOAH” style. I wanted to bring a fresh, young, and new perspective to my area. My message, “What You Think You Become,” intends to remind people of the power they hold-- and through their emotions, they can control and dictate the outcome of their decisions and actions.

The boxes invite the viewer to look at different sides and facets, which is emblematic of the fact that people may view and experience anxiety, stress, and possibly encouragement in differing ways.
