Assumed Identity Through Personal Objects
2022
Assignment: Using objects of personal significance, create 4 graphic iterations manipulating shape, color, and scale. Create 1 final piece. Created using Adobe Photoshop & Autodesk Sketchbook.
What I Created:
The meaningful objects that I selected are: my hand, an alpaca, a statue of Qin Shi Huangdi (first emperor of China & my family’s dynasty), a statue of Confucius, my late grandmother’s vintage Chinese porcelain plate, and Korean instant ramen packets.
The two figureheads are centered in the middle of the piece - one in the direct center, and the other, bottom center. My pink hands point towards the center. Behind the centered statue are my fingers turned yellow- radiating outwards in a fan shape. Inspired by intricate Chinese ivory sculpting, I utilized the alpaca’s body and head to create golden details, shapes, and palaces throughout the artwork. The Korean ramen packs are golden yellow and outline the piece. I used an imperial red and golden yellow color scheme to create a dynastic environment. I used shadows to create depth- mimicking Chinese ivory sculptures.
